August 13 – Unconscious Bias
The Unconscious Bias Training is our signature and most requested programming. The facilitators will present data on how biases affect our everyday life and provide tips for combatting unconscious biases in our workplace.
Our speaker, Chand John, is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. He focuses on increasing diversity and inclusion in the tech/computing world through a variety of means, including drawing comics featuring non-male and underrepresented minority expert voices to teach computer science concepts. He scripted a TED-Ed video teaching a computer science concept with over 2 million views on YouTube. He is also a Principal Robotics Software Engineer consulting with Verb Surgical, a surgical robotics start-up created by Google and Johnson & Johnson. He was previously a software engineer at Honda Research Institute. He completed a PhD in Computer Science at Stanford University in 2012.
